10 Tips For Spring Cleaning Your Wellbeing
We start to unfurl in Spring. It is, of course, a time of huge renewal.
A time when we actively want to harness and action our energy, vitality and enthusiasm for life.
Contrary to Winter, which is a time of hibernation and storing energy, Spring is an ideal time to cleanse and let go.
Embarking on a detox during this time ensures you are in tune with the seasons and that your body maintains a healthy balance unimpeded by toxic accumulations.
This is the ideal time for a sort of overall life edit. To follow are our top ten suggestions to help you create a new path in your life.
#1 Let’s start with the obvious: your diet
It’s easy to focus on what you should consume less off – sugar (universally accepted as being the most ageing ingredient out there, so your skin will thank you for cutting it out), alcohol (sorry), perhaps dairy, meat (at least for a week), processed or canned foods (make these ones forever!).
In the spirit of positivity, also consider what you should have more of : organic, green leafy vegetables, in fact, pretty much all vegetables. Soups are ideal.
Brown rice is a also a winner, and other interesting and healthy carbs. Eggs can also help.
Keep it pure. Plan in advance. Be sensible. Don’t starve yourself. This is about proper nourishment.
#2 Drink up!
Start the day with a cup of hot water and lemon. Or try freshly grated ginger, which helps to clear toxins and kick starts your digestion.
Drink aromatic herbal teas through the day. We know that water is good for your skin, but don’t forget, green tea which is packed with anti-oxidants and helps to calm redness and inflammation.
#3 Add some easy, healthy habits into your day
Body brushing is a fantastic way to wake up the lymphatic system and exfoliate your skin removing winter dryness and any flakiness.
Follow with a shower and then our organic and natural Body Balm For Feeding Skin and Senses an ideal product for this time of year.
#4 Spice up your life
Add aromatic and antimicrobial herbs and spices (such as thyme, sage, oregano, rosemary, ginger, cinnamon, cumin, coriander and turmeric) to your food to stimulate the flow of digestive enzymes and to combat unfriendly gut organisms.
#5 Incorporate a daily self-massage into your routine
Think of it as filling up your cup.
It will not only calm and relax you but will help with detoxification, increase your energy and feed your skin.
At the beginning of the day try our Body Oil for Vital Energy.
At the end of the day we recommend our Body Oil for Inner Peace.
Both these oils are a beautiful addition to your organic skincare routine.
#6 Exercise every day, preferably for at least 20 minutes
A walk in the fresh air can be just as beneficial as a trip to the gym – if not more so, as you will reconnect with nature and ground any jittery energies.
If you need a good cry listen to some triggering music and let it out. Move emotion through you. If you have them, help your children to do this too. Dance. Sing. Laugh.
#7 Speaking of laughing, remember to smile!
It’s easy to sink into a negative mind set. But smiling improves your mood and makes you more approachable.
The feel-good neurotransmitters dopamine, endorphins and serotonin are all released when a smile flashes across your face.
#8 Embark on a house cleanse
If you’ve not yet read the Life Changing Magic of Tidying, it’s well worth it.
Marie Kondo has made a name for herself with her handy tips on editing the home.
These include imagining the lifestyle you want, tidying by category not location – and asking of each item – does it spark joy?
You can apply this to clothes, books, bathroom products, and endless clutter.
It takes energy, time and commitment to do this, so maybe even pull in a friend to help.
You’ll feel lightened, brightened and incredibly organised afterwards.
