It’s not called beauty sleep for nothing: from both a scientific and an esoteric viewpoint, sleep brings the ultimate renewal to our cells and systems.

During the day we are in a metabolic phase, our cells requiring and burning energy.

During sleep, most of our systems are in a heightened anabolic state, accentuating cellular growth and rejuvenation – particularly in regard to the immune, nervous, skeletal and muscular systems.

On a subtle level, it is no coincidence that the 16 petals of the throat Chakra – the body’s sleep centre – are found on the face. Or that this is the Chakra that governs our ability to express our purest inner truth – the key to our innermost beauty.

On a physical level, a good night’s sleep helps counter signs of ageing – from dark circles and swollen, bloodshot eyes to dull skin and wrinkles.

It also boosts mental clarity, improves physical performance, takes the edge off emotional traumas, helps defend our body against pathogens and protects against everything from heart disease to stress.

Not bad for the cheapest and most effective beauty treatment out there! So – here are our top tips for sleeping well.

#1 Check your sleeping environment

Ensure your room is dark, quiet and slightly cooler than normal, as this helps promote deeper, more restful slumber.

#2 Turn off technology

Don’t stimulate the mind with TV, close-up screen-time, or other triggers such as alcohol and caffeine, in the evening. This is vitally important.

Perhaps set a time when you turn off all your devices, such as 8:30pm, and start to unwind.

#3 Develop a regular night-time cleansing routine

This gives cells important breathing space to renew but also helps body and mind to shut down (much like the regularity of a nightly bath for babies).

Our Night Cream for Rejuvenating Skin Cells is especially beneficial.

Rich in anti-oxidants it works to repair skin damage, while the essential fatty acids ensure skin looks younger and restored.

#4 Try to set a regular bedtime

It’s true what your mother said – routine, routine, routine. Your body loves balance.

#5 Unwind with our Bath Salts for Inner Peace

These miracle, organic bath salts, rich in healing minerals, help to wipe away stress and let you relax into sleep.

#6 Clear your head

If your mind is buzzing, try writing a list of the things you need to do.

Follow this with a small meditation. Three minutes of deep breathing. In through your nose, out through your mouth. Breathe in, counting to four, hold, breath out counting to four. Simple.

#7 Go Nutty!

Your body makes melatonin when it starts to get dark, but eating foods with melatonin could also help you feel more sedated. Try a handful of walnuts an hour before bed.

Meanwhile a quarter of a cup of cashews contains 20% of your daily magnesium quota – nature’s natural muscle relaxant.

#8 Try a glass of warm almond milk…

with a teaspoon of agave syrup. The sweet, creamy combination not only tastes delicious but also contains powerful ingredients that promote cellular rejuvenation – ultra-beneficial at night when they are in harmony with the body’s natural regeneration processes.

It’s an excellent source of essential minerals including iron, magnesium, phosphorous, zinc, copper and manganese.

It is also packed with vitamin B2 and E, and rich in tryptophan – an amino acid that promotes sleep.

By following these simple tips, you can help promote a deep, restful night’s sleep, and wake up feeling fully recharged in the morning.
